Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT AGES CAN PARTICIPATE?
STORM training is appropriate for kids as young as 9. Many of our leadership trainees continue on through their early teen years, and have even taken on paid positions in the school.
WHEN ARE CLASSES?
Weekly STORM classes are held on Saturdays at 1:00pm. Online training modules can be completed at any time, as time management is a skill we encourage.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO STUDY MARTIAL ARTS?
Not at all! While many of our lessons will revolve around martial arts themes, and we do use a lot of martial arts symbolism to help visualize goals, no experience is needed.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
All of our members start the same way, with a free 1-on-1 placement evaluation. This session allows your child to break the ice with our team, allows us to assess your child’s strengths and challenges, and lets you see how we work with the kids.
IS YOUR CHILD READY TO BECOME A STORM TEAM MEMBER?
If your child is a natural leader (or wants to become one)
then STORM might be for them. Here’s what is involved:
Classes are held weekly in 12-week cycles.
Leaders know how to make and keep commitments, so a successful
candidate will be able to make it to class each week.
Monthly Online Training
Leaders know that continued personal is vital for success.
Each month, kids will have one online class to complete at their own pace. These classes are brief, but we encourage personal exploration.
Commitment to Excellence
Leaders understand that the way they do one thing will be
the way they do everything & that the way they do everything
will be the way that those around them also do things.
Candidates for leadership training do not have to have perfect behavior
or straight A’s, but they do need to be dedicated to doing their best.
This includes personal relationships, scholastic diligence, & behavior at home.
They struggle to maintain control of their movements and may be unintentionally destructive.
They find it difficult to focus on a task or to see it through to the end. They sometimes struggle to listen to you.
THE STORM METHOD
Learning about theories of leadership is great, but learning how to APPLY those lessons is where the magic happens!
Students have the opportunity to take on active leadership roles within the STORM program, through near-peer mentoring in general classes, & through relationships we have built in the local community.
Learn about leadership in business, including decision-making, delegation, money skills, communication, and more.
Learn all about what it takes to nurture talent, whether in a sport, a hobby, or in the workplace. Talent Skillz encourages a life of learning while creating a student who thrives in any class or work environment
Students will learn that effective leadership often means educating those in their charge. Kids will explore 8 different skills related to education.
Kids will explore their self-limiting beliefs and step into a world of discovery as they seek to develop a mindset that focuses on abundance and success.
As a leader, you must be resilient, and often self-sufficient. The Forgotten Skillz module is based on surviving and “surthriving” by utilizing the skills our ancestors used to make life bearable each day.
Team Building Skillz
While a leader must be willing to “go it alone,” it is the synergism of the team that magnifies the efforts of the world’s visionary leaders.
STORM Members will cycle through several different learning modules. Upcoming modules include:
LEADERSHIP SKILLS THAT LAST A LIFETIME
During their course of training, your child will learn about and practice applying the soft and hard skills of leadership. When used together, your child will not only stand out as a leader among their peers but will empower others around them to also want to be and do better.
Soft skills are the character traits and inherent abilities that a leader brings to every interaction. These include: Consistency, Self Discipline, Attentiveness, Interaction, Resiliency, Respect, Sportsmanship, & Initiative.
Hard skills include the directly applicable leadership techniques that your child will learn to apply in order to help those around them excel. These include: Social Interaction, Emotional Intelligence, Transformative Vocabulary, and more!
